About the Church
Death is the thread that connects all living things. We gather to face it without flinching — and to care for one another along the way.
A death-positive nonprofit church on the El Paso border, for everyone the world forgot to see.
The Church of Death Muerte Tod is a 501(c)(3) religious, charitable, and educational organization. We provide spiritual care, grief support, community outreach, and death-positive education. We meet grief plainly, we honor the dead, and we hold the door open for anyone moving along the thread.
Reason is the ground.
Ritual is the practice.
We are built on reason and the sovereignty of the individual. Our rites, our numbers, and our all-seeing eye are symbolic — instruments that work on the person who wields them, not claims upon the laws of nature.
The skeleton in our emblem does not conjure. It meditates. That is the whole of our magic: a practice that reorders the self, steadies the grieving, and returns the living to their place in the web.
Our symbolism draws on devotional and esoteric tradition. We make no medical or scientific claims about the pineal gland, any molecule, or the efficacy of ritual beyond its meaning to the practitioner.
Devotion to Santa Muerte
If death is the thread, Santa Muerte is the one who holds it for everyone equally. The Bony Lady turns no one away; her scales weigh every soul the same. On the El Paso border, hers is the faith of the overlooked, and we carry it with reverence.
